Maine offers a wonderful and exciting whitewater rafting experience.  There are several rivers in Maine and all have firms that offer guides and whitewater trips and tours.  See below for a listing of Maine whitewater rafting firms.  The three most popular rivers are the Penobscot River, Dead River, and Kennebec River.  The Penobscot River is probably the most exciting.  Agreements with the federal authorities controlling the dam flow releases have allowed whitewater rafting firms the ability to time their trips for the maximum enjoyment.  The Maine Rafting Association offers brief descriptions of the three big rivers on their website - "The Rivers".
