Lubec,
MaineLubec, Maine is the easternmost town
in the United States. It was incorporated in 1811 and named for Lubeck,
Germany. Lubec is the easternmost community in the United States. It has 96 miles of coastline, huge tides, and a
maritime history. It was founded in the days when fishing and
shipbuilding reigned supreme. It is now a small fishing town with a
population of around 1,500 people that sees a bit of tourist traffic during
the summer months. At one time Lubec was the sardine canning capital
of the world. There are a number of Bed & Breakfast and Inns as
well as some restaurants and pubs. Water street is a place to visit
should you find yourself in Lubec. Another interesting note on Lubec
is that the tides change by 20 feet every day!
