Roque Bluffs is a quiet town
found along the coast of Maine just south of Machias in Washington County.
It has a number of homes and cottages with a very small population (264 in
2000 census). There is no commercial center with stores and
restaurants. A very small village center has the library, fire
station, chapel, and community center.
There are no hotels and motels in Roque Bluffs.
There are a number of rentals available for vacationers. The Sea Spray
Cottage listed above is a very nice place.
There are no restaurants in Roque Bluffs. A number
of eating establishments can be found in Machias and East Machias. A listing
of
Machias area restaurants is provided by the Machias Bay Area Chamber of
Commerce.
Roque Bluffs State Park. Located on the southwestern edge of the
Roque Bluffs land mass along Schoppee Point Road. A very nice beach
that is about 1/2 mile long. There is also a fresh water swimming area
called Simpson Pond on the state park property. Hiking trails are also
found in the state park. Kayaks are available for rental from the park
management.
