Seacoast > Islands of Maine The state of
Maine has a huge number of islands, large and small that lie just off its
coastline. Many of the larger ones are inhabited. Some are
merely summer residences for those who favor the summer months in Maine.
Others are occupied year-round by fishermen and their families. Some
of the more noteworthy ones (in terms of visiting for those folks who are on
vacation) are listed below. If the name is in blue with a hyperlink
that means there is a page to view on that island.
Bailey Island. Part of the
Town of Harpswell
Great Sebascodegan Island.
Part of the Town of Harpswell.
Great Wass Island. The Great Wass Island Preserve is located in
Beals, Maine - a small town located just south of Jonesport, Maine. A
lovely place to hike. The preserve located on the island is almost
1,600 acres large. The link takes you to The Nature Conservancy page that
has info on the preserve. A blogger has also posted
info and photos about hiking on the island.
Isle Au Haut
Orr's Island. Part of the
Town of Harpswell.
Peaks Island. Occupied year-round. It is a part of the city
of Portland located in Casco Bay.
